Giles Clarke, Chairman of the ECB, has once again made it clear that centrally contracted players will not be free to join the IPL.
England star Kevin Pietersen was reported in Saturday’s Times newspaper saying it was “ridiculous” that England’s stars could not take part in the tournament which begins on April 18th.
Because of the massive sums of money being paid to those who are involved in the IPL, and the dates which clash with the start of the English summer, this could well be a problem that refuses to go away. Will the top England players continue to put country before securing their own paydays?
To quote Pietersen further, “you want your best players playing both for their country and for the IPL. You don’t want them choosing between the two.”
I fear some of them will be making just that choice if no compromise can be reached.
