England Twenty20 skipper Paul Collingwood is keen to impress with nothing less than a win against Australia at Old Trafford today, in an effort to retain his position as England captain leading up to the cricket World Cup in the Caribbean in April next year.
Collingwood’s role as Twenty20 captain officially ends with in Manchester and the player is hoping that he will be retained for next year. He led England in this years World Twenty20 on home soil and appears to be the only runner in the race for the captaincy next year.
The only real contender to Collingwood is Test Match captain Andrew Strauss who looks unlikely to make a return to the short game arena, leaving the selectors with a current choice of one.
The first of two one day Twenty20 internationals against Australia at Old Trafford, was washed out on Sunday, with England chasing a total of 146 to win and hanging on dangerously at 4 for 2 when the match was abandoned.
