Hampshire have given their permission for Dimitri Mascarenhas to become the first English player to sign up for the new Indian Premier League. An agreement was apparently reached early this morning between the county and the Jaipur franchise, allowing Mascarenhas to join up with his county skipper Shane Warne for the first part of the tournament.
His involvement means he misses the first half of May in this year’s English season, but will return before Warne, who remains until the competition in India ends on June 1st.
Mascarenhas was valued at £50000 by the Jaipur franchise and will play along side South Africa captain Graeme Smith and Pakistan star Younis Khan.
Is this the first of many?
