England moved to 89 without loss in response to New Zealand’s 277 all out on day three of the first Test at Lord’s. There was only a brief flurry of action in the morning session before the rain set in for the day.
Spectators hung around grimly until play was finally called off at 5.15.
Cook did find the time to reach his half century - he finished on 53* with Strauss making 31*. The forecast is better for the remaining two days so it may still be possible to get a result if England bat very well.
It was good to see Strauss and Cook put on some runs though. Looking ahead to the ashes odds, it is crucial that these two form a partnership much like Strauss and Marcus Trescothick did in 2005.
Odds must now be strongly on the draw though.
