Justin Langer passes Don Bradman’s run record

John Williams - Thursday 23.07.09, 22:17pm

230px-justin_langer_portraitJustin Langer has broken the record held by Sir Don Bradman to become the highest scoring Australian batsman in first class cricket in Thursday’s game in England between Somerset and Worcestershire.

Bradmans long standing record fell during an innings of 107 for Langer, taking the Australian left hander past the 28,067 that Bradman had scored.

Langer retired from international cricket after helping Australia whitewash England in the 2006-07 Ashes series. He made 7,696 runs in 105 tests for the Aussies forming a prolific partnership with Matthew Hayden.

The 38 year old Langer has now scored 28, 080 runs in an 18 tear career and was rewarded for his record breaking achievement with a bottle of champagne by his Worcestershire team after overhauling the man he refers to as the ‘epitome of Australian cricket.’

He may have broken the DON’s record but he is not the right person to hold it. A man who does not have decency towards elder statesman [of any conuntry] does not deserve it.
