England took the four wickets needed to level the series against New Zealand in the first session of play on day five in Wellington.
Ryan Sidebottom, arguably England’s greatest threat throughout the match, struck early to remove Vettori and Mills and had the final say catching stranded danger man McCullum off Panesar’s bowling for 85. The Kiwis finished on 311 all out, losing by 126 runs. Sidebottom finished with an excellent 5-105.
So all to play for in the decider at Napier this week, and the real prospect of an away series win to push England back up the world ratings. The talked about fragility in the New Zealand line-up has been exposed.
Now England must have the confidence to finish the job.
