Texan billionaire Sir Allen Stanford has offered $100 million to the ECB for playing a five match Twenty20 series against his West Indies All-Star team.
Many of England’s biggest players have been public in their disappointment at missing out on playing in the lucrative IPL. This offer would seem to allow the ECB to appease their stars, whilst still hanging on to the central contract system.
Stanford has been a massive backer of West Indies cricket, having given them $100 million in order to revive the game there. The first match of the series could be in Antigua on November 1st and would be an amazing winner-takes-all $20 million contest. There would then be a further 4 games played annually, with the venue alternating between Antigua and Lords.
