England’s selectors will announce the squad for the first test against New Zealand this Sunday. The match is at Lord’s from next Thursday.
Will they choose Flintoff? He has looked dangerous with the ball, but can’t score a run for Lancashire. Is he truly fully fit? Collingwood has a shoulder injury, and is another, along with skipper Vaughan, who can’t get going with the bat.
Pietersen made a timely century against Somerset and Bell has had a fair start to the season, Cook also. Strauss should be ok because of his 177 against the Kiwis last time out.
If they go with Flintoff, and there’s no way back for Hoggard, I guess Stuart Broad will miss out. There seems to be pressure on all the bowlers, but none being applied to the batters - a point Hoggard has made himself.
The real disappointment is no-one is really banging at the door for a place from outside the established players. That’s not good for the future.
