Former England captain David Gower is of the opinion that Peter Moores could be dismissed as England cricket coach before the team fly out to the West Indies on the 21st January.
Peter Moores and England captain Kevin Pietersen have found it difficult working together since the latter was appointed as captain last summer and this, combined with the poor results under Peter Moores, have led to question marks over his future.
David Gower has had his say on proceedings and he believes that Kevin Pietersen ‘will get his way’ with Peter Moores stepping down from his postion before long. David Gower went on to say that the ECB will have to ‘go with their captain’ because Kevin Pietersen is very important for the future of English cricket and the team can’t afford to lose his captaincy.
In terms of what occurs now, David Gower believes that something will happen ‘pretty soon’. This could mean that Peter Moores will be dismissed or that a compromise will be agreed and things will continue with the current coach and captain remaining in their roles.
It has to be said though that the cricket odds are starting to back the idea that Peter Moores will be dismissed soon. His record since taking the role in April 2007 hasn’t exactly been fantastic, after all. Of the eight tests he has won as coach, seven of them were against relative test minnows New Zealand and West Indies.
There is certainly some big decisions to be made by the ECB in the next week or so and which way they decide to go could heavily affect England’s preparations for this summers’ Ashes series.
