Collingwood under pressure

Thomas Rooney - Thursday 29.05.08, 07:08am

Despite being the one day international captain, there is no doubt whatsoever that Paul Collingwood is the most likely candidate to be dropped from England’s batting line up. His recent slump in form for Durham and England will certainly test out Michael Vaughan’s sentiments that no ‘comfort zone’ exists within the top six positions.
Collingwood is [...]

Should Ramprakash have been given a chance?

Thomas Rooney - Tuesday 27.05.08, 07:48am

Without doubt, Mark Ramprakash is one of the most talented batsmen England have produced in the last ten years or so. For me, it is a crying shame that he only averaged 27.32 in the 52 test matches he played.

Australia’s opening batsman Matthew Hayden has an ankle injury, and is unlikely to play in the first Test against West Indies in Jamaica.  Skipper Ricky Ponting described his chances as “50/50 at best.”
The Aussies will also be missing Michael Clarke for compassionate reasons, as well as the recently retired Adam Gilchrist.  The re-shuffled line up [...]

England going nowhere

John Gawen - Tuesday 20.05.08, 17:01pm

The first test at Lord’s petered out into the much predicted draw.  With well over a day lost to the bad weather,  some would say this was inevitable.  I disagree.
The bowlers misfired on day one, in ideal swing bowling conditions.  The batsmen came and went cluelessly on Sunday.  They should have been looking to press [...]
