Cook puts England first

John Gawen - Wednesday 30.04.08, 22:35pm

how much is it?England opener Alastair Cook insists he would rather play for his country than join the IPL.  The 23 year old batsman reckons the honour of representing his country outweighs the financial rewards on offer from the Twenty20 competition in India.

“I can’t see people turning their back on playing for their country,” said Cook. “If you can do both it would be great but England comes first.

“Financially it’s better to play in the IPL but life is not all about money.”

Cook is a talented, if somewhat dour, batsman.  He doesn’t make the England Twenty20 side.  It’s good to hear him put England first but he’s never going to be one of the top IPL picks in the future.
