England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff has insisted that the decision for the team to return to India this week was made by every single player rather than the more senior members of the team.
Kevin Pietersen’s England cricket team fly to Chennai today ahead of the two test matches after being satisfied with security precautions in place following the terror attacks on Mumbai that resulted in the squad flying home.
Since the decision was made, the media has focused on praising the senior players for opting to resume the tour. However, Andrew Flintoff – who is considered a senior player himself – believes that this is ‘wrong’.
The Lancashire man says that ‘everyone decided to go’ and that throughout the whole process every player ‘has voiced their opinion’, including the more inexperienced ones.
Speaking about the cricket itself, Andrew ‘Freddy’ Flintoff has pinpointed the two test matches as an excellent opportunity to ‘show what we can do’. He went on to admit that it would be very tough for England to win anything against a very confident Indian team, but they will give it everything they have got.
There is no doubt that the preparation for the series hasn’t been ideal for England and the cricket odds are right to back an Indian victory, but maybe this whole scenario will pull the team together?
The team spirit should benefit from the tough decisions they have had to make together and perhaps this will be enough to give them a decent start to the first test that gets underway on Thursday.
